In Delhi, Rekha Gupta was elected the leader of the legislative party. Her name was announced on Wednesday and now on 20 February, she will take oath of CM. Rekha Gupta’s political journey has been full of struggles and achievements. Born in Haryana and raised in Delhi, the line was active in politics since childhood. He got education from Delhi University and played an important role in student politics. After joining the BJP, she served in various positions of the government and the organization.

Despite facing defeat in the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections, in 2025 he won a big win over Shalimar Bagh seat. Now the BJP has chosen him as the Chief Minister of Delhi, due to which she became the leader of the BJP to become the Chief Minister of BJP after 26 years in the capital. His life and career is a source of inspiration for young leaders.

Education and family background

Rekha was born in 1974 in Nandgarh village of Jind district of Haryana. His father is the late Jai Bhagwan Jindal and mother Urmila Jindal. His family shifted to Delhi in 1976 after his father got a father’s job in SBI Bank. However, his family still does business in Julana. Rekha Gupta has to visit her home state due to belonging to Haryana adjacent to Delhi. Rekha Gupta is married to Delhi businessman Manish Gupta. They have two children (a son and a daughter).

Gupta, who was associated with the RSS for 32 years, started his political journey from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Daulat Ram College, University of Delhi in 1992. In 1995-96, she was the secretary of the Delhi University Students Union and its president in 1996-97. In 2002, she joined the BJP and was the national secretary of the party’s youth branch. Rekha Gupta has also worked as in charge of BJP’s women’s wing in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. She is also the national vice president of the BJP Mahila Morcha.

After being elected councilor from North Pitampura in 2007, Gupta worked for the welfare of women and children. He launched initiatives like Sumedha Yojana, under which financially weaker students helped in getting higher education. She was elected councilor three times-2007-2012, 2012-17 and 2022-25 from Shalimar Bagh. As the head of the women’s welfare and child development committee of the municipal body, she led the empowerment campaign of women.

Travel from councilor to CM

-2007: North became a councilor from Pitampura.
-2007-09: He was the chairman of Women Welfare and Child Development Committee for two years in MCD.
-2009: Delhi was the general secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha.
-2010: BJP gave him the responsibility of a member of the National Executive.
Success was not achieved in 2015 and 2020 assembly elections
Rekha Gupta was fielded in the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections from Shalimar Bagh seat.
In 2015, he was defeated by Vandana Kumari of Aam Aadmi Party by about 11 thousand votes, while in 2020, the difference of his defeat was close to 3400 votes.
In the 2025 assembly elections, he defeated Vandana Kumari by a big margin. On Wednesday, he was elected for the post of CM.

No criminal case

There is no criminal case against him, so his image emerges as an honest and loyal leader. She is going to become the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dixit and Atishi as the leader of the House in the Delhi Assembly. Also, she will be the fourth BJP Chief Minister in Delhi after Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma and Sushma Swaraj. After the swearing in, she will be the only female chief minister in any state ruled by the BJP.

In the assembly elections held on 5 February in Delhi, Gupta defeated rival Bandana Kumari by more than 29,000 votes in Shalimar Bagh seat. She lost the seat to Kumari in 2015 and 2020 elections. In the recently concluded 70 -member Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP won a decisive victory with 48 seats, which ended the AAP’s old -decade -old rule in the capital.
