RIL wants time for EV battery plant – Ril Wants Time for Ev Battery Plant
The group led by Mukesh Ambani on Tuesday said that the unit of Reliance Industries’ electric vehicle battery making unit has sought more time from the central government to set up its construction plant under the incentive scheme (PLI) related to production. The group has not explained the expansion period or the cause of delay.
In March 2022, Reliance obtained a concession under the PLI Plan of the government to establish a local construction capacity of 5 GW for Advanced Chemistry Sales (ACC). Under this scheme of 181 billion rupees, companies were to set up manufacturing facilities within two years. Reliance also said that the plant received a letter from the Ministry of Heavy Industries in which a fine has been imposed due to delay.
The fine was Rs 3.1 crore by 3 March. The Government of India has launched an incentive scheme to increase local production of batteries. A target has been set to reach 30 percent of EV sales participation in total car sales in the country. Electric models contributed about 2 percent of the total cars sold in India last year.
