A one -year female leopard (leopardes) have been found dead in the Kakraha range of Katarniaghat Wildlife Division located in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh. Initial investigation feared that the leopard died during the Territorial Fight, in which possibly a large leopard was killed and eaten.
This incident has emerged as the third death of leopards in the region this year. So far, 4 leopards and 1 tiger have died in the Katarniaghat division in the year 2024, which is a serious concern in terms of wildlife conservation.
According to the agency, forest officials said that the villagers on Monday saw the body of the leopard on the banks of the Bhaida river in the Chadahar Beat of the Kakaraha range and reported it. On Tuesday, Divisional Forest Officer B Shivshankar said that after receiving the information, the forest team immediately reached the spot and took the body. The DFO said that preliminary evidence suggests that the leopard must have died in a struggle with a big leopard, which would have eaten it after the struggle.
