In the 16th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 12 runs. Spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi played an important role in Lucknow’s victory. Digvesh took one wicket for 21 runs in 4 overs and he was elected ‘Player of the Match.

After this match, Digvesh Rathi has suffered a major setback. The Cricket Control Board of India (BCCI) has imposed a 50 percent fine of the match fee for violation of the IPL code of conduct on Digvesh. Also, two demerit marks have also been added to Digvesh’s account. This was Digvesh’s second crime of Level-1 under Article 2.5 in this season.

Digvesh Singh Rathi celebrated in a different way after taking the wicket of Mumbai Indians batsman Naman Dhir. Digvesh went to him and gestured to write a letter (notebook celebration). Digvesh had earlier done something similar after dismissing Priyansh Arya during the match against Punjab Kings. He was then fined 25 percent of the match fee and a demerit point was given.

Digvesh Singh Rathi has now got three demerit points in his account. According to the rules of IPL, if a player has four demerit marks in his account, then he has to sit out of a match. That is, now Digvesh will have to avoid celebrating such celebrations in the upcoming matches. Otherwise they may be banned for a match.

On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant was fined Rs 12 lakh for a slow-over rate in the match against Mumbai Indians. This was Pant’s first crime of this season. Under the code of conduct related to the minimum over speed of IPL, if the first crime is from the captain of a team, then a fine of Rs 12 lakh is imposed on it. If a second time in an IPL season is a crime of slow over rate from that captain, then a fine of Rs 24 lakh is imposed. If there is a mistake for the third time, the concerned captain is banned for a match.

If seen, Digvesh Singh Rathi has reminded the West Indies fast bowler Kesarik Williams. Williams popularized the ‘Notebook’ celebrations after dismissing the batsman, including the ‘famous quarrel’ against Virat Kohli during the 2019 bilateral series.

Leg spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi hides the ball behind his back like Sunil Naren while putting the balls. Digvesh caught everyone’s attention with a great performance for runner -up South Delhi Superstar in the Delhi Premier League played in 2024. In that tournament, Digvesh proved to be the Trump card of his captain Ayush Badoni. He finished fourth in the list of most wickets with 14 wickets in 10 matches. Digvesh was bought by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for his base price of Rs 30 lakh in the mega auction before IPL 2025.

Rishabh Pant’s poor form released
Rishabh Pant could not do anything special in the match against Mumbai. Pant scored 2 runs off 6 balls and he became a victim of Hardik Pandya. Pant has scored 19 runs in a total of 4 matches in the current season of IPL. This shows their poor form. Pant is the third captain who has been fined for slow-over rate in the current season. Prior to Pant, Hardik Pandya of Mumbai Indians and Ryan Parag of Rajasthan Royals (RR) have been fined.
