Kevin Peterson’s homecoming … before IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals entrusted a big responsibility to the legend

New Delhi: Former England captain Kevin Peterson was appointed as a mentor (guide) of Delhi Capitals on Thursday ahead of the upcoming session of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This 44 -year -old former player captained the Delhi team in 2014. Peterson will be seen in a role related to coaching in the IPL for the first time. He has been a part of this league from 2009 to 2016 as a player.What did Kevin Pietersen say after becoming a mentor?

Peterson wrote on X, ‘I am very excited to come to my home to Delhi. I have the best memories of time spent with Delhi. I love the city, I love fans and I will make every effort to support the franchise in our search for the title in 2025. ‘
Peterson has an experience of playing 200 T20 matches, scoring 5,695 runs. He scored 1001 runs in a total of 36 matches in the IPL with Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Pune franchises.

He will be part of the coaching team headed by Hemang Badani in Delhi Capitals. Badani was made the head coach in October last year. The franchise coaching member also includes assistant coach Matthew Mot, bowling coach Munaf Patel and Cricket Director Venugopal Rao. Delhi Capitals have never won the IPL title. The team reached the final in 2020 where it had to face defeat to Mumbai Indians.

Last season was ranked sixth in Delhi

The team allowed its captain Rishabh Pant to leave the sixth position in the last session. He retained Akshar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Triston Stabs and Abhishek Porel, while KL Rahul, Harry Brook, Faf du Plessis and Mitchell Starc were successful in their fleet in the players’ auction. The Delhi team will launch their campaign against Lucknow Super Giants in Visakhapatnam on 24 March.
