In the year 1983, when Maruti launched its first car Maruti 800 on the Indian soil, at that time many domestic and foreign players were gaining momentum in the market. But this journey of Maruti Udyog Private Limited, which started in partnership with Japanese company Suzuki, was no less than a revolutionary change for the country’s auto sector. Within a short time, this small car of Maruti became the first choice of Indians and the name Maruti reached every household.
Since its launch in 1981, Maruti Suzuki has gone through many major changes in the last 44 years. Competing with its rivals, Maruti not only became the largest car company in the country but at present it controls almost half the market. Last year was a mixed year for Maruti. During this period, the company launched the next generation models of Swift and Dezire in the market. But Maruti has big preparations for the new year. This time in January the company is going to make the biggest launch of the year.
Maruti’s first electric car:
Many domestic and foreign giants have entered the electrified Indian auto sector. At present, Tata Motors remains the leader of the EV segment with the highest market share. On the other hand, players like Mahindra, Kia, Hyundai and MG Motors are also continuously giving impetus to this segment. But the country is still waiting for Maruti’s first electric car. People have high expectations from Maruti’s electric car.
About 8 years ago in 2018, the electric version of Maruti WagonR was spotted for the first time during testing. Everyone was looking at this Maruti electric car running on the road with longing eyes. This car was tested from the roads of Delhi, Gurugram to the hills of Kufri, but with time this experiment of the company got shelved. Maruti WagonR could not come in electric avatar but Maruti planned to enter this segment with full preparation.
Competition started increasing:
Meanwhile, in October 2019, Tata Motors launched its first electric car Tigor EV for private buyers. Regarding this car, the company claimed that this electric sedan car will travel 213 km on a single charge. At that time its price was fixed at Rs 9.44 lakh. After this, Mahindra launched its electric SUV ‘XUV 400’ in the market. Apart from this, many models including Hyundai Kona, MG ZS, MG Comet, Windsor, Kia EV9 have come in the market.
2023 Auto Expo:
After recovering from the Corona epidemic, the country’s auto sector was back on track. The time had come to give impetus to many schemes which had been put on hold. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki presented the concept version of its first electric car Maruti eVX to the country. With this car presented in a completely new look and design, Maruti Suzuki had also made its intentions clear that there will be a delay but there will be a strong entry.
Will come late… will come soon…!
After working on the electric vehicle concept for many years, Maruti Suzuki is finally going to enter the electric segment with its first electric car ‘Maruti e Vitara’. Last year, during the Auto Expo in Milan, Italy, Maruti’s parent company Suzuki unveiled its new electric car ‘e Vitara’ and official pictures of this car could be revealed for the first time. Now Maruti Suzuki has listed this car on its official website.
Teaser continues to be released…!
Many teasers of ‘Maruti e Vitara’ have been released in the last few weeks. With every new teaser, new information related to it is coming out. It will be presented at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo to be held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi on 17th January. There is news that this car can be launched for sale by March. This is a global model for Suzuki. Which will be made in Suzuki’s Gujarat plant. There is a plan to export 50 percent of its production to Japan and European markets.
How is Suzuki e Vitara:
Talking about the new Suzuki E-Vitara, it is quite similar to the concept model. Its look-design and even its size is similar to Maruti eVX. Although some sharp angles have been reduced, most of it remains the same as the eVX concept. It has tri-slash LED daytime running lights at the front and rear, charging ports on the front edges and curves on the rear wheel arches. In this, the rear door handle has been moved to the C-pillar, which is exactly like the old Swift.
Equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, this electric SUV has a length of 4,275 mm, width of 1,800 mm and height of 1,635 mm. It has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm, which is longer than the Creta. This larger wheelbase will help in installing a better battery pack inside the car. Its ground clearance is 180 mm which is adequate for most Indian road conditions. Its total weight ranges from 1,702 kg to 1,899 kg depending on the variant.
Size of Suzuki E Vitara:
Length | 4,275 mm |
Width | 1,800 mm |
height | 1,635 mm |
wheelbase | 2,700 mm |
ground clearance | 180mm |
Battery pack and range:
Suzuki e Vitara has been introduced by the company with two different battery packs (49kWh and 61kWh). In this, the large battery pack has been given a dual-motor all wheel drive (AWD) setup, which the company names All Grip-E. It has a blade cell lithium iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack sourced from Chinese car company Build Your Dream (BYD). While other carmakers export only the battery cells, assemble them locally and use them in their vehicles, Suzuki is importing the entire battery-pack from BYD.
However, Suzuki has not yet given any official information about the range of this electric SUV. But the company had earlier told that the large battery pack with capacity of 61kWh can give a driving range of up to 500 km in a single charge in the global test. So approximately this much can be expected from this electric SUV.
Creta EV will become a challenge:
Amidst these preparations of Maruti, the company’s nearest rival Hyundai has today unveiled its upcoming electric car Creta Electric. Hyundai Creta Electric will be the biggest challenge for Maruti. Creta Electric is coming in two battery pack options. Which includes 42kWh and 51.4kWh batteries. Both these battery packs come with ARAI claimed ranges of 390 km and 473 km respectively.
