South Korean President Yun Suk Yeol has been arrested. Even before this, the police had come to arrest Yol, who was facing impeachment, but due to the uproar by his supporters, the arrest could not be made.
Hundreds of policemen had reached President Yole’s residence on Wednesday morning. He was staying here with his personal security force for several weeks. In this way, Yole is the first President of South Korea who has been arrested.

After his arrest, the President has issued a video message saying that the investigation initiated against him is illegal. He said that I have decided to appear before the CIO, even though it is an illegal investigation. I took this decision so that there is no bloodshed.
Let us tell you that he came under target by suddenly imposing martial law in the country on the night of 3rd December. A crowd of protesters had gathered outside his house, shouting slogans in his support. Yoon’s supporters were trying to stop his arrest.
Seoul court had issued an arrest warrant against President Yoon Suk Yeol. Yun was impeached on December 14 for imposing martial law.
This was the first time in the country that an arrest warrant has been issued against a President. The Seoul court had given instructions to senior officials of the Corruption Investigation Office (CIO). Let us tell you that he was repeatedly summoned for questioning but he did not appear before the police even once.
Martial law was suddenly imposed
Yun suddenly declared martial law on the night of 3 December and sent special forces and helicopters to the parliament. His party MPs along with the opposition rejected his order and forced him to withdraw his decision. President Yoon faced impeachment and is now facing a criminal investigation into his sudden decision.
The Justice Ministry recently confirmed that Yoon is the first South Korean president to be banned from leaving the country while in office. Last week, President Yoon declared emergency martial law in a decisive battle against North Korea-backed ‘anti-national’ and ‘communist’ forces.
