Maldives President Mohammad Mujju said on Thursday that his foreign policy aims to strengthen relations with developing countries and give priority to neighboring countries. This statement of Mujju came for 2025 during his presidential speech in the inaugural session of People’s Majlis (Parliament of Maldives).
A statement issued by the President’s Office quoted Mujju as saying that the sovereignty of Maldives is the top priority for the country and its foreign policy ensures that sovereignty and freedom will never be compromised.
Emphasis on the peace and stability of the country
Mohammad Mujju said that the country’s foreign policy aims to strengthen relations with developing countries, in which the state’s peace is the highest priority, he assured that Maldives would give priority to their neighbors. At the same time, it will continue to work closely with the international community to promote peace, stability and development. However, he did not name any country in his speech.
Last year i.e. on 7 February 2024, Mujju said that by increasing the defense capabilities of Maldives, his country will soon reach the high, where the country will not need any foreign military assistance. The statement came a few weeks after he demanded the return of Indian defense personnel and a day later he announced that Maldives would protect himself and maintain autonomous control over all areas.

Mujju then said in his speech that the dates of the return of Indian military personnel had told and claimed that he was working to ensure the sovereignty of his country. According to the consent of India and Male, the Indian military personnel returned before the time frame set by Mujju.
