The troubles of the jailed South Korean President increased, how much punishment will he get for imposing martial law? – jailed South Korean President gets in more trouble indicted over martial law ntc

South Korean prosecutors on Sunday indicted impeached President Yun Suk Yeol on charges of leading a rebellion. These allegations are related to his controversial decision to impose martial law on December 3. Yun’s lawyers and the main opposition party have confirmed this.

There could be a long jail term

Yoon’s lawyers described the prosecution as the prosecution service’s “worst decision”, while the main opposition party called it the right step. This is the first time such allegations have been leveled against any President of South Korea. If Yoon is proven guilty, he could face several years in prison.

His shocking martial law order was aimed at restricting political and parliamentary activities and controlling the media. His move caused huge political turmoil in Asia’s fourth largest economy and America’s major ally.

Prime Minister also impeached

During this time the Prime Minister was also impeached and he was suspended from power. Additionally, many top military officers were also accused of being involved in the rebellion. “The President’s declaration of emergency martial law was a desperate appeal to the public regarding the national crisis that has arisen due to the opposition spiraling out of control,” Yoon’s lawyers said in a statement.

Was arrested on January 15

The Prosecutor’s Office did not immediately respond to the matter. However, South Korean media has also confirmed this allegation. Last week, anti-corruption investigators had recommended filing charges against jailed Yoon. Yun was impeached by Parliament on 14 December and suspended from his duties.

Yoon, a former chief prosecutor, was arrested on January 15. Before his arrest, there had been a tense standoff between his security squad and officials for several days. Since then he is in solitary confinement.
