Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given strict instructions to prevent road accidents and increase safety. He said in the State Road Safety Council meeting on Wednesday that road safety awareness programs should be organized in all schools and colleges from January 6 to 10. The Chief Minister said that every year 23-25 thousand deaths occur in road accidents, which is the result of lack of awareness and negligence. Strict steps need to be taken to stop this.
Road Safety Park in Schools
CM Yogi said that road safety parks should be created in every district on the lines of road safety clubs in schools and colleges. By connecting school children with road safety awareness programmes, drama, music, poetry, essay, seminar, speech and general knowledge competitions should be organized on subjects related to traffic rules. CM Yogi said that the meeting of the District Road Safety Committee under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate should be completed by January 5 under any circumstances.
CM Yogi’s instructions
- District Committee Meeting: All District Magistrates should ensure the Road Safety Committee meeting by 5th January.
- License Cancellation: Licenses and permits should be canceled in case of repeated challans.
- Signage and hoardings: Signage should be installed on roads and awareness hoardings should be installed in 75 districts, 350 tehsils, 1500 police stations and municipal bodies.
- Testing of drivers: Regular health checkup of the bus drivers of the Transport Corporation and fitness of the buses should be ensured.
- Operation of e-rickshaw: Special attention needs to be paid to ensure that minors are not able to operate e-rickshaws and other vehicles. The process of registration of e-rickshaw should be done smoothly.
- Ban on modified silencers: To curb noise pollution, modified silencers and horns should be banned from bikes.
Other important steps
- Strict ban on overloading, overspeeding, and drunk driving.
- Action plan to identify possible accident sites and solve them.
- The number of police forces and home guards will be increased to enforce traffic rules.
- Pedestrians/common people should be made aware that they should not run away after seeing the accident, but should take the injured to the nearby hospital or trauma center within the golden hour. Minimize ambulance response time.
The Chief Minister said that road safety should not be limited to Lucknow only, but it should be implemented effectively in all the districts. He said that people need to be taught how important it is to take the injured to the hospital within the golden hour at the time of an accident. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Urban Development Minister AK Sharma, Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh, Basic Education Minister (Independent Charge) Sandeep Singh and senior officials of various departments were present in the meeting.
