Urvil Patel SMAT 2024: Gujarat wicketkeeper-batsman Urvil Patel is in full form these days. His bat is roaring fiercely in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024. Just a few days ago he had scored a century in 28 balls. Today (3 December) Urvil scored a century in 36 balls against Uttarakhand. The opposition team included left arm spinner Swapnil Singh of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Gujarat’s opening batsman hit 11 sixes and eight fours in his unbeaten inning of 115 runs in 41 balls. He helped his team achieve the target of 183 runs with eight wickets and 35 balls remaining at the Emerald High School Ground, Indore. Earlier in this match, Uttarakhand had scored 182/7 in 20 overs.

Urvil holds the record for scoring the second fastest century in T20, while his century scored in 36 balls against Uttarakhand is the fourth fastest century scored by an Indian batsman.

Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma are at second and third position in this list. Pant scored a century in 30 balls against Himachal Pradesh in SMAT 2018, while Rohit scored a century in just 35 balls against Sri Lanka in 2017.

Urvil Patel completed his century in just 28 balls in the match between Gujarat and Tripura on 27 November. This century of Urvil was the second fastest century in T-20 cricket. The record of scoring the fastest T20 century was in the name of Sahil Chauhan of Estonia. Who scored a century against Cyprus in just 27 balls.

26-year-old Urvil Patel was included in the IPL 2025 auction at a base price of Rs 30 lakh, but he was not bought by any team. He is a wicketkeeper batsman. Urvil, a resident of Mehsana (Baroda), made his debut for Baroda in a T20 match against Mumbai in Rajkot in 2018. In the same year he also entered List-A cricket. But it took him six years of playing first-class cricket before he made his debut in the last edition of the Ranji Trophy.

Although Urvil can still play in IPL 2025, if a player gets injured and a franchise selects him as a replacement, then he can still play in IPL 2025.

When Gujarat bought Urvil for 20 lakhs
Gujarat Titans had bought Urvil for the 2023 season for a price of Rs 20 lakh, but he did not get a chance to play a single match. After being released by GT, Urvil did not find any team for the next edition. In 44 T20 matches, he has scored 988 runs at an average of 23.52 and strike-rate of 164.11, with one century and four half-centuries to his name.
