In Gai Ghat area of Kotwali police station area of Varanasi, a priest committed suicide due to grief over not getting the physical darshan of Maa Kali. The incident happened on Monday night, when the priest slit his throat with a sharp cutter during the worship of Goddess Kali. Police reached the spot after receiving information and took possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem.
According to the information, the deceased priest lived in a rented house with his wife and children. The priest was invoking and doing sadhana of Maa Kali for the last 24 hours. When he did not see his mother even after 24 hours, he committed suicide in despair. The priest’s wife was at home at the time of the incident. When he saw the priest in a bloody condition, he immediately took him to the hospital. But, the doctors declared the priest dead.

Police reached the spot on information about the incident. Preliminary investigation revealed that the priest was deeply influenced by religious faith and had performed intense meditation to get the darshan of Goddess Kali. Police said it appears to be a case of suicide and other angles are also being investigated.
