In this article, we’ll throw light on some significant films of 2025, featuring the other significant actors of the industry, and what the experts have to say about them.
What lies in store for Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Sunny Deol, Ranveer Singh, Ayushmann Khurrana, Vicky Kaushal, Sidharth Malhotra, Tiger Shroff in 2025? Trade experts share their predictions
Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar
Regarding Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar, trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “Ajay had a mixed 2024. Satan worked very well while in fieldhe earned a lot of critical acclaim. Where in my mind were you? flopped. He should get back in the massy zone. He has always been a mass hero, right from the time he did the motorcycle stunt in Flowers and thorns (1991). That cinema never ran out of fashion and Ajay should do those films. I missed the aggression in Ajay in Singham AgainHe and Akshay Kumar are returning with franchises and that will ensure visibility.”
Ajay Devgn’s films for 2025 are Raid 2 on May 1, De De Pyaar De 2 on November 14 and Son Of Sardaar 2whose date is undecided yet. He’ll be seen in an important role in Azaad as well. It releases on January 17 and marks the debut of Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani.
As for Akshay Kumar, he has franchise films like Housefull 5 (on June 6), Welcome To The Jungle and Jolly LLB 3 and standalone films like Shankara (tentative title) and Sky Force (on January 24) as well.
Trade analyst Atul Mohan reacted to them doing sequels saying, “Now they are all playing safe as they know that there’s a brand awareness and loyal fan following for their earlier films. How much it works, time will tell. If it’s made well and served nicely to the audience, it can succeed and will keep them in the race.”
Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal commented, “Akshay should take a break for 6 months. He should do fewer ads and films, go on a holiday, carefully check the scripts and analyze where he’s going wrong.” As for Ajay Devgn, he said, “He should be careful while choosing scripts. He shouldn’t have more than 2 releases in a year.”
Sunny Deol
After the all-time blockbuster Gadar 2 (2023), Sunny Deol will be seen in Jaat on April 10, 2025. Its teaser is out, and it promises to be an unabashed mass action entertainer. Taran Adarsh said, “Mass-oriented films usually work like magic. With the teaser of Jaatthe makers made it clear what their target audience is and thus, they sent out the right signal. Those who look for Hollywood-style cinema in Bollywood would complain, ‘What did you do?’My only message to them is – your opinion doesn’t matter, more so after Pushpa 2. For them, anything that is desi entertainment is cringe. Look again sometimecringe we have spoken,
Atul Mohan said, “This is Mythri Movie Makers’ first Hindi outing. It shows Sunny Deol uprooting a fan; that’s what people want to see.” Raj Bansal said, “If Gadar 2 can work, then Jaat can work too, though I personally am not very confident about it.”
Taran Adarsh reminded that Sunny’s other release, Lahore 1947can also be promising. He said, “It will see Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol coming together. I have known Santoshi when he was writing Ghayal (1990). Even then, he had the spark of brilliance. He and Sunny Deol are a volatile combination. It’s so good to see them back, that too in an Aamir Khan Production. I hope they get the content right.” The film also stars Aamir in a supporting role.
Sidharth Malhotra,Tiger Shroff
Sidharth Malhotra and Tiger Shroff haven’t had a hit in a long time and 2025 will be a decisive year for them. Sidharth Malhotra’s only release of 2025 is Param Sundarico-starring Janhvi Kapoor. It is produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. All their films are becoming big hits and hence, this film is also expected to excel at the ticket window. Tiger, on the other hand, will be back with Baaghi 4. The bloody first look managed to grab attention.
Taran Adarsh commented on Param Sundari saying, “The little that I know Dinesh Vijan, he won’t bankroll a project until he’s satisfied with the content. He knows his audience.” He also said, “Tiger Shroff is a wounded tiger right now! He got a lot of flak for Bad Miyan, Chote Miyan, and he has to prove himself with Baaghi 4I liked the first look and now let’s see how the film is.”
Raj Bansal predicted, “Sidharth Malhotra and Tiger Shroff can bounce back. They should also be careful in choosing the story. They can do very well if they pick up the correct film and director.”
Ranveer Singh, Ayushmann Khurrana, Vicky Kaushal, Shahid Kapoor
Ranveer Singh will be back after Rocky and Rani love story (2023) with Dhurandhardirected by Uri (2019) director Aditya Dhar. Atul Mohan predicted, “It’s a promising collaboration and it can be a film to watch out for.” Raj Bansal, however, replied, “I don’t see it becoming a big hit, but it can be a small success.”
Another actor who’ll be seen after a gap of more than two years on screen is Ayushmann Khurrana. Last seen in Dream Girl 2 (2023), he features in thamaco-starring Rashmika Mandanna and Paresh Rawal. Interesting, like Street, Munjya and wolfit belongs to the horror comedy universe.
Atul Mohan is confident of its success. “Dinesh Vijan created a horror universe and it’s a space no one ventured into,” he said. “They have understood what the audience wants.” Raj Bansal agreed, “I feel Ayushmann can deliver a hit film. His fees are nominal and hence, his films have controlled budgets.”
Vicky Kaushal has emerged as a force to reckon with and the teaser of छावा has met with a great response. While Atul Mohan predicted that it has the potential to be one of the biggest hits of the year, Raj Bansal predicted, “It might emerge as a dark horse but as of today, I have lesser expectations.” It releases in cinemas on February 14.
Finally, Shahid Kapoor, who delivered the first hit of 2024 with There is such a confusion in my body will be back with DeviTaran Adarsh explained why he’s hopeful, “Devaa‘s director Rosshan Andrrews is promising. It remains how they have updated the subject, if at all it’s a remake (of Mumbai Policeas per reports). But I feel that Shahid Kapoor is a very good actor; no denying that.”
Raj Bansal has his hopes in check. He said, “He’s a very fine actor but unfortunately, he often picks up the wrong projects.” Devi releases in the first month of 2025, on January 31, and Shahid Kapoor would be back in the last month of the year with Vishal Bhardwaj’s untitled next, co-starring Triptii Dimri.
To conclude
Taran Adarsh signed off by saying, “You need young actors today to carry on the baton. Right now, we have Ranbir Kapoor and Kartik Aaryan who have delivered big numbers. We need Shahid Kapoor to deliver and also Sidharth Malhotra, Tiger Shroff, Ayushmann Khurrana, Rajkummar Rao. They also need to do films that really work in a very big way.”
