Anwar served as Malaysia’s Finance Minister during the 1990s, recalling Manmohan Singh’s unprecedented economic reforms. Both the leaders pledged to fight corruption. He said that Dr. Singh was an excellent politician, as a politician he was undoubtedly very strong. He has left a legacy that will inspire future generations.
The Malaysian Prime Minister said that when he was jailed as part of a political conspiracy, Manmohan Singh had offered to bear the education expenses of his children, especially his son. Ibrahim explains that by doing so there was a risk of angering the then Malaysian government. However, according to his personality he still did so.
