World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus claimed on Saturday that he had survived Israeli air strikes on the airport in Yemen’s Houthi rebel-controlled capital Sanaa. Tedros said during a conversation with BBC Radio that the sound of the attacks on Thursday is still echoing in his ears. He said that he was waiting for the flight at Sana’a airport. He also said that the provisions for the protection of civilians under international law should be respected.

Let us tell you that on Thursday Israel had targeted Sana’s international airport and other places. Regarding these attacks, Israel had said that they were targeting the rebels. This attack happened for the second time after December 19, when Israel targeted the positions of Houthi rebels in Yemen.

What did the WHO chief say?

Referring to this attack, Tedros said that the sound was so loud that he was left numb. He said that the explosion was so terrible that I cannot describe it. He said that there were several explosions one after the other which shook him.

He told that people were running here and there and there was no security, we were completely scared. If the missile had moved even slightly, it could have taken our lives. My colleague said that we escaped death.

Meanwhile, Houthi rebel group’s Deputy Transport Minister Yahya al-Sayani said that four people were killed and 20 were injured in the attacks.

Tedros shared video of the attack on Twitter and thanked colleagues and airport staff who tried to protect him during the “very dangerous attack”. He also said that he and his team reached Jordan safely.
