Why did BJP bet on Rekha Gupta, how to beat veterans to Delhi, how the woman Chief Minister – Why BJP Chose Rekha Gupta as Delhi New CM Legacy and Convey Message to Women Voters NTCPAN

The suspense about the name of the Chief Minister in Delhi is now over and BJP has decided to make Rekha Gupta the Chief Minister. Rekha Gupta has come to the MLA from Shalimar Bagh seat in Delhi for the first time and is the national vice president of the BJP Mahila Morcha. Also, she will be the fourth woman to hold the post of Chief Minister in Delhi. Prior to this, Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dixit and Atishi have been the CM of Delhi.
Why did BJP choose Rekha Gupta
Many veterans like Pravesh Verma, who defeated Arvind Kejriwal in the race for the post of Chief Minister, were running the names of many veterans like Delhi’s veteran leader Vijendra Gupta. Despite this, the party has bet on Rekha Gupta. Rekha Gupta, who comes from Vaishya society, originally belongs to Jind in Haryana. The BJP has given a clear message to increase the participation of women in the party and government by making women chief ministers. BJP is in power in 13 states but till now there was no woman CM of the party. However, earlier women have been the Chief Minister in many states from BJP.
By making Rekha Gupta the Chief Minister of Delhi, the BJP is now trying to carry forward the legacy of women Chief Ministers. Delhi has seen many women chief ministers, including Sheila Dixit’s 15 -year rule of Congress. Atishi of AAP and Sushma Swaraj of BJP have also been the Chief Minister in Delhi. Atishi, MLA from Kalkaji, was also on a chair for five months. He got this responsibility after Kejriwal’s withdrawal from the post of CM in September 2024.
Focus on women voters
Sushma Swaraj was the CM of Delhi from 12 October 1998 to 3 December 1998. He was made the Chief Minister by the BJP just before the assembly elections. However, the BJP had to face defeat in the election due to many other issues including rising onion prices. After this, Sheila Dixit was CM for 15 consecutive years in Delhi. Now again, there is a possibility of a woman Chief Minister in Delhi for the next 5 years.
By making Rekha Gupta the Chief Minister, the BJP has tried to show BJP’s priority towards women in electoral politics and policies. In the 70 -member Delhi Assembly elections, BJP fielded 9 women candidates. Four of these women candidates have won. At the same time, women voted more than men in the 2025 assembly elections in Delhi. The turnout of women voters was 60.92%, while men had 60.21%.
AAP, who is dependent on women voters, has lost in this election, while the BJP won the decisive win by getting 48 out of 70 seats. Keeping in mind the voters, the BJP has made big promises in the election manifesto focusing on women in Delhi. On the lines of AAP’s cash amount of Rs 2,100, BJP has also announced to give Rs 2,500 every month to women of Delhi under Mahila Samriddhi Yojana. Apart from this, the remaining welfare scheme for women has also been announced to be implemented.
Non-disputed leader in Delhi
Apart from this, BJP has chosen a non-disputed leader in Delhi. Leaders like Ramesh Bidhuri and Pravesh Verma have become a victim of criticism for their sharp statements. Also Rekha Gupta is a new face as she has not contested parliamentary elections and is a new face to write a new chapter in the history of Delhi. Rekha Gupta has been associated with BJP for nearly three decades. By making him the Chief Minister of Delhi, the BJP has not only chosen a non-disputed politician, but has also chosen a woman leader and a new face.
On the decision to make Rekha Gupta the CM, political analyst Ashutosh said that the BJP has taken a good decision by making a woman a CM as he is a non-debated leader within and outside the party. Also, after taking power, the possibility of conflict is also less. Senior journalist Vinod Agnihotri said that through this decision, BJP has targeted two targets with one arrow. She said that she comes from the Vaishya society which is the core vote bank of BJP in Delhi, apart from this, she has the ability to take everyone along as a woman CM.
This decision of the party also shows that BJP does not always adopt the same strategy in the Chief Minister’s election. Before the Lok Sabha elections, BJP also made junior leaders in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh as Chief Minister. But after the loss in Lok Sabha elections, he made Naib Singh Saini in Haryana and Devendra Fadnavis in Maharashtra, who was at the top of the race of contenders for the post. Everyone was thinking that even in Delhi, the party will make a leader who is at the top of its list of contenders. But by not doing so, the BJP adopted the model of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh and announced to make 50 -year -old Rekha Gupta the Chief Minister, who has come to the first MLA.
