‘The talks were good for both the countries’
Trump gave information about this conversation on his social media platform, which he described as very useful and expressed hope for positive results. He wrote, ‘This conversation was very good for both China and America. I hope that together we will solve many problems and start it immediately.
Trump said, ‘We discussed balancing trade, fentanyl, TikTok and many other topics.’ Emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the two countries, Trump said, ‘President Xi and I will make every effort to make the world more peaceful and secure.’
Jinping will not attend Trump’s swearing-in
Earlier, China’s state media outlet Xinhua confirmed that the two leaders spoke on the phone, but did not provide any specific details about their discussion. This conversation between the two leaders follows Trump’s previous comments on January 6, in which he mentioned his ongoing communication with Xi Jinping through representatives and expressed hope about strengthening their bilateral relations.
Earlier in the day, China announced that President Jinping will not attend Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony, scheduled to take place in Washington on January 20, but has appointed Vice President Han Zheng as his special representative.
