The controversy between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs who arrived to hand over the memorandum to the Election Commission on the issue of EVM and voter ID card has stirred up the party. According to party sources, Chief Minister and party supremo Mamata Banerjee is very angry with this whole incident. Mamta Banerjee has clearly said that no MP should carry forward this dispute nor make statements in the media. Instructions have been given to avoid bringing internal affairs of the party on the public platform. He said that now no MP will interview this issue, and will not harm the image of the party.
In fact, on Thursday, a delegation of TMC MPs went to submit a memorandum to the Election Commission. During this, there was a sharp debate between two Lok Sabha MPs and senior leader Kalyan Banerjee. The matter reached till personal allegations, thieves and agents. The woman MP even accused Kalyan Banerjee of harassment and even threatened to register a case and arrest. Other MPs intervened and pacified the matter.
According to sources, the MPs were called to the party office at 9:30 am, but the memorandum was with Kalyan Banerjee who reached the Election Commission directly. There was resentment among many MPs about this.
After the video was leaked, Kalyan Banerjee gave a press conference and clarified that he had received instructions to sign a memorandum of 27 MPs from Deric O’Brien. He said that this issue is being unnecessarily burnt. He said, “The next morning when I reached the EC office, a female MP shouted at me that her name was not deliberately placed in the list. She was screaming in a loud voice, I also replied. Then she went directly to BSF jawans and said- Arrest this man.”
Banerjee also said that Deric O’Brien had messaged him that the signature of 27 MPs was to be handed over to EC. Later it was told that all MPs will have to reach the office at 9:30 pm. He alleged that the whole matter was unnecessarily caught.
He said that I have been in politics for 40 years. I have fought against CPIM, Congress and BJP. I do not just fight against Adani and Modi. You know me in Parliament. But this woman has no other issue in politics besides Modi and Adani. She never challenges any other BJP leader, nor from Bengal. How did he dare to demand my arrest? Who is he? I was not given any information about who would join the delegation. Naturally, I got angry after his statement.
