After Sambhal and Varanasi, now a temple lying closed for years has been found in Bulandshahr district also. Hindu organizations have appealed to the administration to renovate the temple so that worship can be resumed in the temple. It is being told that this temple is about 50 years old, which is closed since the riots of 1990.
On Sunday, Khurja Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Durgesh Singh said that the temple in Salma Hakan locality was built by the Jatav community, who also used to worship there.
SDM told that the Jatav community had left this locality about three decades ago. It is said that the idols of the Khurja temple were immersed in the river by a family of the community. He clarified that the structure of the temple is intact and there is no dispute regarding the site. He said that the matter is being investigated. Meanwhile, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Jatav Vikas Manch have urged the authorities to renovate the temple so that religious activities can resume.

Temple closed after migration of Hindu families
According to VHP’s Meerut unit official Sunil Solanki, this temple was closed since 1990, when the Hindu families living in this area had migrated. Solanki said that a memorandum has been submitted to the authorities requesting cleaning and beautification of the temple so that the worship can be conducted smoothly.

Kailash Bhagmal Gautam, president of Jatav Vikas Manch, said that the temple is about 50 years old, which was originally built by members of the Jatav community. Gautam said that after the 1990 riots, the community changed its residence and the temple has been closed since then. He said that the forum, along with VHP, has made a formal request to resume religious activities at the temple.

Old temples have also been found in Sambhal and Varanasi.
Earlier, on December 14, the Sambhal administration had reopened a temple which was closed since 1978 after communal riots in the city. This temple in Khurja was found a week after the Shiva temple in Sambhal which was closed since 1978. After Sambhal, a 250-year-old temple has also been found in the Muslim-dominated Madanpura area of Varanasi. This temple is inside a house, which the Muslim man has declared as his property. However, Hindu organizations have given an application to the administration, demanding worship in the temple.
