Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan took to social media early on Friday to honor four eminent personalities who passed away in 2024: entrepreneur Ratan Tata, tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, filmmaker Shyam Benegal, and former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Sharing a poignant cartoon by renowned artist Satish Acharya, Bachchan highlighted the profound loss felt by the nation.

The artwork depicted the four legends in heaven, engaged in their passions: Zakir Hussain playing the tabla, Shyam Benegal operating a camera, Ratan Tata feeding dogs, and Dr. Manmohan Singh focusing on nation-building.
The image’s caption read: “A Parsi, a Muslim, a Sikh, and a Hindu passed away in 2024, and the whole nation mourned and remembered them only as Indians.” Bachchan’s caption, “The picture says it all,” resonated deeply with his audience, emphasizing the unity and respect these figures inspired.
Remembering the Icons
Dr. Manmohan Singh, the respected economist and statesman who served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, passed away on December 26 at the age of 92 due to age-related complications. Hours before his passing, he was admitted to AIIMS Delhi after his health deteriorated.
Just days earlier, on December 23, acclaimed filmmaker Shyam Benegal succumbed to chronic kidney disease at 90. Known for his groundbreaking contributions to Indian cinema, Benegal’s legacy continues to inspire filmmakers worldwide.
Earlier in the year, on October 10, Ratan Tata, the visionary former chairman of the Tata Group, passed away at 86. Tata’s leadership and philanthropy left an indelible mark on India’s corporate and social landscape.
In another heartbreaking loss, Zakir Hussain, the globally celebrated tabla maestro, passed away at 73. His unmatched artistry elevated Indian classical music to international acclaim.
