Renowned film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh recently sat down with Bollywood Hungama to share his insights on the box office performance of recent Bollywood films. During the interview, Adarsh reflected on the highly publicized clash between Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Againwhich were released on November 1 during Diwali.

“Social Media Craze Doesn’t Guarantee Box Office Success”
Speaking about the importance of audience turnout in theatres, Adarsh emphasized that online popularity does not always translate into box office success. He asserted: “Nowadays, everyone has a social media account, I assume. Casting a vote or sharing an opinion online is a common practice. But putting your hand in your pocket, spending money, and actually watching a film is a different thing altogether. .
The veteran trade analyst further added, “Many actors and producers often tell me that thousands of people turned up at a mall event, and they see it as a sign of rising craze for their film. I don’t say it on their face because they would feel disheartened, but the real question is: out of all those people at the mall, how many will actually go to the theaters?”
Elaborating his point, he said, “Similarly, when someone says their song got millions of views or their trailer received millions of hits—it’s fine, but that’s free. The true test is when people spend money on tickets.”
On the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Again Clash
Addressing the Diwali clash between the Kartik Aaryan-starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Rohit Shetty’s Singham AgainAdarsh shared his thoughts on the impact of such rivalries on the box office. He remarked: “If you ask my humble opinion, I would say avoid clashes in the future. I have seen clashes in the past, but they were not as bitter or negative as this one. This time, there were groups formed for both films .”
He further explained, “Why get into such situations? Both producers must have realized their potential could have been higher if they had released solo. But then, who would budge? Someone says they announced the film first, another says this period is ideal for the release. In the end, when you look at your balance sheet for the year, you’ll realize that coming solo might have been the better option.”
A Missed Opportunity for Both Films
Adarsh’s remarks highlight a growing concern in Bollywood about releasing multiple big-budget films on the same date. While Diwali remains a lucrative release period, such clashes often divide audiences, impacting box office collections for both films.
The makers of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 had previously asserted that their film had been announced months in advance, while the team of Singham Again maintained that their film’s theme resonated with the festive season.
