After the success of Pushpa 2 – The Rulethe industry has once again begun the debate on the lessons Bollywood filmmakers should learn from their Southern counterparts. Popular director-producer Sanjay Gupta, however, said that the one important lesson we need to implement immediately is focusing on music.
Following Pushpa 2’s success, Sanjay Gupta gives important advice to Bollywood filmmakers: “Songs are soul of our films; can you imagine Animal without its music; how much songs were responsible for its success?”
He told Bollywood Hungama exclusively, “If there’s any lesson (from Pushpa 2 – The Rule‘s success), it is very simple – we have stopped having music. In Hindi films, we don’t put music anymore. Singham Again was such a big film and I can’t recall a single song in it. Why have we forgotten that songs are the soul of our movies since the time the sound came into our movies? You remember the songs; you don’t remember the films. There are so many of my favorite songs and I don’t know which film it is from.”
He proved his point by stating, “We have stopped creating and writing music. And then comes a film like pathanWhen ‘Jhoom jo pathan’ was played, we saw the hysteria that happened in the theatres. That is the only thing we need to introspect. Let us not be shy of using great music.”
He gave another pertinent example saying, “In AnimalsSandeep Reddy Vanga used a Punjabi song, a Marathi song and an Iranian song as well as traditional Hindi songs. Can you imagine that film without its music? Also, can you imagine how much music is responsible for the success of that movie? Let’s bring back music and let’s not be apologetic about it.”
Sanjay Gupta also remarked, “It’s not like we should start making movies that only cater to the frontbenchers. I guess there has been a paradigm shift in characters and movie movie-making in Hindi cinema post the pandemic.
