Foreign Secretary Vikram Mistry spoke to Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaki in Dubai on Wednesday. The Ministry of External Affairs has given information about this. Both countries discussed important issues like humanitarian assistance, increasing trade through Chabahar port as well as health and refugee rehabilitation in Afghanistan.

Misri reiterated India’s commitment to continue providing humanitarian and development assistance to the Afghan people. The Afghan minister thanked India for its continued support to Afghanistan.

The ministry said that both the countries decided to emphasize the need for development work in the present. India agreed to focus on promoting the use of Chabahar port to support trade and commercial activities, including humanitarian aid, to Afghanistan. Besides, both the countries have also discussed strengthening cooperation in cricket, which is given great importance by the young generation of Afghanistan.

Shipment sent to Afghanistan

The ministry mentioned India’s humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan and said India has sent several shipments to the neighboring country, including 50 thousand metric tons of wheat, 300 tons of medicine, 27 tons of earthquake relief aid, 40,000 liters of pesticides, 100 million polio doses. Are. These include 1.5 million doses of Covid vaccine, 11,000 units of hygiene kits for de-addiction programme, 500 units of winter clothes and 1.2 tonnes of stationery kits.

The statement further said that in response to the appeal from Afghanistan, India will first provide additional material assistance in the health sector and rehabilitation of refugees.

The ministry said that the Afghan side underlined its sensitivity towards India’s security concerns. Both sides have agreed to remain in touch and continue regular contacts at various levels.
