ipl 2025 sanju samson may hand over wicketkeeping to dhruv jurel

New Delhi: Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson may quit wicketkeeping in IPL 2025. Samson wants to play as a fielder by handing over the responsibility of wicketkeeping to young player Dhruv Jurel. Samson has been retained by the franchise for Rs 18 crore. Jurel has become India’s second favorite Test wicketkeeper, since then he wants to do wicketkeeping in IPL also. Samson also hinted that he and Jurel may share wicketkeeping responsibilities.

Sanju talked to de Villiers

Sanju Samson spoke openly about this during a conversation on AB de Villiers’ YouTube channel. He said that Dhruv Jurel is at that stage of his career where he should get the experience of wicketkeeping in IPL also. Samson said, ‘I have not said this on air, but we feel that Dhruv Jurel is at this stage of his career as a Test wicketkeeper, he needs to wear gloves in the IPL. There was discussion on this. I think we’ll share gloves. I have never captained as a fielder. This can be challenging.

Sanju Samson has also talked to Dhruv Jurel this time. Sanju further said- I have told him, ‘Dhruv, I understand where you are coming from and I think that as the leader of the team, you should also do keeping for some matches.’ We’ll see how to work on it, but nothing should come before the team. The team should come first.

Jurel is out of the playing eleven right now

Dhruv Jurel made his Test cricket debut during the home series against England earlier this year. After the return of Rishabh Pant, Jurel had to be out of the playing eleven. Both Pant and Jurel played the first Test against Australia in Perth. But Jurel was kept out of the team in the matches held in Adelaide and Brisbane. Unless there is an injury, Jurel is unlikely to play further in the series.
