The parents of the victim have expressed disappointment over Sanjay Roy, the culprit in the rape-murder case that took place in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, getting life imprisonment. He said that he is not satisfied with the court’s decision to sentence the convict to life imprisonment. He claims that the investigation into this heinous incident has been done half-heartedly. Many culprits involved in this crime have been saved. They will go to the High Court demanding justice.
The victim’s mother said- How is this not the rarest of rare case?
The victim’s mother said, “We are shocked. How is this not the rarest of rare cases? A doctor on duty was raped. She was murdered. We are disappointed. There was a larger conspiracy behind this crime. ” While announcing the punishment for Sanjay Roy, Additional District and Sessions Judge Anirban Das said that this does not fall in the category of rarest of rare cases. Therefore, in this case they are sentencing the culprit to life imprisonment.
Victim’s parents refuse to accept compensation of Rs 17 lakh
The victim’s father said that they will continue their fight until all the other culprits are punished. Along with this, the victim’s parents also refused to take compensation. In its decision, the court had directed the state government to pay compensation of Rs 17 lakh. The judge said, “The victim died while on duty in the hospital. That was his workplace. His family should get compensation, which is the responsibility of the state.
Sanjay Roy guilty under these sections of the Indian Justice Code
Earlier on Saturday, Sanjay Roy was convicted under sections 64, 66 and 103 (1) of the Indian Justice Code. After this, the victim’s mother said that she is still waiting for the arrest and punishment of other criminals. He said, “Sanjay Roy is guilty. This has been proved by biological evidence. He remained silent during the hearing in the court. This also proves his hand in torturing and murdering my daughter.”
‘I will fight for justice with my husband till the last day of my life’
He had said, “Sanjay Roy was not alone in this matter. There are other people who are involved in this. He has not been arrested yet. Therefore justice has not been fully achieved. I will continue my fight for justice with my husband till the last day of my life. This matter will be completed only when all those involved in the murder of our daughter are punished. We will wait for that day. We won’t be able to sleep until that day. This is what we want now.”
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also expressed dissatisfaction with the decision
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also expressed dissatisfaction over Sanjay Roy being sentenced to life imprisonment. He claimed on Monday that the responsibility of investigation was forcibly taken away from Kolkata Police. He said that if this responsibility had been with the police, the culprit would definitely have received the death penalty. Questioning the CBI investigation in this case, he said, “We had demanded death sentence, but the court gave life imprisonment.”
