A private bus carrying pilgrims from Telangana to Prayagraj Mahakumbh caught fire on Tuesday, killing an elderly passenger. The incident created chaos at the tourist facility center in Vrindavan, where the bus was parked. The police officer said that the cause of the fire is being investigated.

According to Additional SP City Arvind Kumar, according to PTI, there were around 50 pilgrims in the bus and it reached Vrindavan tourist center on Tuesday evening. This group was going to Prayagraj at night for the holy bath in Mahakumbh. Some pilgrims went out to visit the temples, while others stayed back to prepare food. Meanwhile, sparks came out from the bus and within no time a massive fire broke out.

Police and fire services were immediately informed. One of the pilgrims raised an alarm and informed that an elderly man named Dhrupati was still inside the bus. However, by the time the fire brigade arrived, the fire had engulfed the vehicle and Dhrupati was found dead.

A co-passenger sitting near Dhrupati alleged that the deceased was smoking beedi and preferred to remain in the bus while others went out to go to the temple. He guessed that the fire might have been caused by beedi. Senior police officers reached the spot and started investigating the incident. The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem.
