Pakistan Inter Services Public Relations – PAK, which spread propaganda against India, itself got scared of ‘fake news’, the public was unhappy and gave 2 billion to the army – Pakistan allocates two billion to fight ‘fake news’, questions raised on nefarious legacy of lies and propaganda against India

The Government of Pakistan has approved an additional budget of Rs 2 billion to deal with alleged ‘fake news’ against the country’s institutions. This step has been taken at a time when Pakistan is facing economic crisis, rising inflation, decreasing foreign exchange reserves and poor condition. This decision not only raises questions, but also highlights Pakistan’s long legacy of spreading lies and propaganda against India.

The decision was taken by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb under the leadership of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and supported by Pakistan Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir. The objective of this initiative is to technologically upgrade the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) to counter ‘fake news’. The irony is that ISPR itself has long been at the forefront of spreading false allegations and propaganda against India.

750 million diverted from SCO budget

Pakistan has diverted Rs 750 million from the budget of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) for this initiative. Pakistan’s commitments in the SCO, which is meant to promote regional stability and cooperation, have already been in question. Despite this, Islamabad is spending the funds on projects that focus on suppressing dissent and enhancing its propaganda.

In this new budget, Rs 1.22 billion has been allocated for technical upgrade for ISPR and Rs 723 million for cyber security. Although it has been presented as a national security need, critics say that this fund will be used to suppress the voices of critics of the army and the government. For decades, Pakistan has made false propaganda against India a part of its policy.

ISPR runs propaganda against India

From creating false stories on Kashmir to making fake claims on India’s military capabilities, ISPR has continuously spread propaganda against India at the international level. This decision has further angered the citizens of Pakistan, who are already struggling with poverty, unemployment and record-breaking inflation. Critics have accused the government of focusing on narrative control instead of focusing on important issues like health, education and food security.

Despite the economic crisis, Pakistan’s military and political leadership continues to prioritize anti-India rhetoric and actions. This includes efforts to raise the Kashmir issue on the international platform, which the world no longer pays attention to. At a time when the country is in dire need of economic reforms and social development, the government of Pakistan is emphasizing on propaganda and narrative control. This not only weakens the democratic structure of the country but also further tarnishes the image of Pakistan at the international level.
