Brave STF Inspector Sunil Kumar, who was injured in an encounter between miscreants and police in Shamli, UP, died. He was hit by several bullets during the encounter. He was undergoing treatment in Gurugram hospital. He breathed his last yesterday while fighting the battle with death. It is known that Inspector Sunil was part of the STF team which killed Arshad and his three associates, a criminal carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh, in Shamli on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. He was seriously injured during the encounter. Doctors tried hard to save him but he died during treatment.
Sunil Kumar, born in 1971, was originally a resident of Meerut. Sunil joined the police service in 1990. He was serving in STF since 2009. Before this, Sunil had stayed in PAC for a long time. Sunil Kumar was promoted from Chief Constable to the post of Platoon Commander and Commander.
Did commando course in Manesar, Haryana in 1997 and was appointed in Special Task Force from 2009. He received many medals during his service. Such as – Meritorious Service Award in 2015, Excellent Service Award in 2022, ‘Excellent Service Medal and Award – Silver in 2024 etc.
Involved in many encounters
Sunil Kumar has earlier also been a part of the team that took on many big criminals. In 2008, when there was a police encounter with Omprakash Kewat in Fatehpur district, Sunil was also in that team. In 2008 itself, Sunil had played an important role in the encounter of Ambika Patel alias Thokiya with a reward of Rs 5 lakh.
Apart from this, he had an important contribution in arresting the notorious Sushil alias Mooch, Inami Badan Singh alias Baddo and Bhupendra Bafar in Meerut and sending them to jail. In 2019, he was also instrumental in killing a notorious and active criminal, Aadhar Baliyan, on whom a reward of Rs. 1.25 lakh was declared, during an encounter.
After this, Sunil Kumar played an important role in killing the notorious gangster Anil Nagar alias Anil Dujana during a daring encounter with the STF team in Jani police station area of Meerut in 2023. In 2024, it was also successful in killing the notorious criminal Anil alias Sonu Matka, the shooter of Hasim Baba gang and wanted in the double murder incident in Delhi, carrying a reward of Rs 50,000, in a bold encounter.
Shamli encounter
Let us tell you that on the night of Monday-Tuesday in Shamli district, there was an encounter with the members of Mukim Kala and Kagga gang of STF Meerut. There was heavy firing for 30 minutes near a village. More than 40 rounds of bullets were fired from both sides, in which four miscreants were killed. In this encounter, STF Inspector Sunil Kumar was hit by four bullets. He was taken to the hospital in injured condition, where he died the next day.
At the same time, the main gang members Arshad, Manjeet, Satish and an unknown person are among the killed criminals. The police was searching for Arshad for a long time, but they could not find him. Dozens of cases are registered against him.
