People still like the story and songs of the film ‘Kya Kehna’ released in the year 2000. Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan and Chandrachud played lead roles in this film. But do you know that the director wanted to cast Salman Khan in the film instead of Chandrachud. Director Ramesh Taurani has revealed this in an interview.
There was a lack of famous faces in the film
He told that no distributor wanted to buy this film because there was no big face in it. In such a situation, he requested Chandrachud to leave the film so that Salman could be kept in his place. But Chandrachud refused to leave this project.
Mukul would have been in this instead of Saif
Ramesh further says that he had earlier cast Mukul Dev and Chandrachud Singh but Mukul did not come on the first day of shooting, so the decision to cast Saif Ali Khan was taken at the last minute.
The film was not getting any distributor
This film was being made immediately after the murder of Gulshan Kumar. In such a situation, there was a kind of recession going on in the film industry at that time. Due to which this film was not getting any distributor. This is the reason why he requested Chandrachud to leave after half the film was shot.
Wanted to keep Salman in place of Chandrachud
When Chandrachud agreed, Taurani talked to Salman Khan. Salman immediately agreed to be a part of the film. He said, ‘I don’t even want to listen to the script. I will do this film only because you have asked me to do so. But you will have to take NOC from Chandrachud. I don’t want to take away the rights of others.
Ramesh further says that his words reached the media. After that Chandrachud decided that he would not back out from this film. After this Salman Khan asked Ramesh to finish the film with Chandrachud.
