The form of Republic Day changed in Modi era: From foreign military contingent to CDS

From 2014 to 2020, the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi saw many historic changes in the Republic Day celebrations. Important initiatives included the visit of US President Barack Obama, march of military contingents from France and UAE, participation of women’s contingents, demonstration by NSG commandos, and presence of the Chief of Defense Staff. These changes gave a more diverse and international character to India’s Republic Day.
