Israel and Hamas have reached a ceasefire and hostage agreement to end the war that has been going on for the last 15 months. This was confirmed by US President Biden. More than 46 thousand people have been killed so far in Gaza during the war between Israel and Hamas.

This war between Israel and Hamas started on October 7, 2023, when Hamas fighters attacked Southern Israel, killing 1200 people and taking more than 250 people hostage. In response, Israel launched a military campaign, which according to Gaza medical officials killed more than 46,000 Palestinians.

The White House quoted Biden as saying that Israel and Hamas have reached a ceasefire and hostage agreement after several months of diplomacy by the US with Egypt and Qatar. What happened in the last 15 months?

7 October 2023: Hamas fighters entered southern Israel from Gaza and carried out widespread violence. Israel launched airstrikes on Gaza and imposed a complete siege.

8 October: Lebanon’s Hezbollah attacked Israel, claiming it was in support of the Palestinians.

13 October: Israel directed residents of Gaza City to move southward, displacing almost the entire population of the Gaza Strip.

19 October: A US Navy ship intercepted missiles and drones fired from Yemen towards Israel. Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels continued attacks on Israel and Red Sea shipping.

21st October: Relief supplies were allowed to reach Gaza from Egypt through the Rafah border, but the humanitarian crisis worsened.

27 October: Israel launches its first ground attack in Gaza.

Nov 15: Israeli forces captured Gaza’s largest hospital, Al-Shifa. Within a few weeks all hospitals in northern Gaza were closed.
