In Kanpur, UP, an elderly couple tried to commit suicide but the policemen present there saved them. Actually, an elderly couple living in Bilhaur area, hurt by the lack of action in the case of kidnapping of their daughter, tried to commit suicide outside the CP office on Friday.
According to the news agency report, he alleges that despite 105 days having passed since he lodged the missing complaint of his 22-year-old daughter Akanksha Dubey, the police did not take any concrete steps to find her.
The couple who tried to commit suicide have been identified as Rakesh Dubey and his wife. He had lodged a complaint about his daughter’s disappearance on August 31. His daughter Akanksha Dubey was returning home after performing ‘Jalabhishek’ at Khareshwar temple in Shivrajpur, when she was kidnapped by someone.
Rakesh Dubey said, ‘He appealed to the police several times and even gave written application twice to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s office, but no attention was paid to his complaint. He said, ‘Finally, in despair, he tried to commit suicide by pouring petrol outside the CP office but the policemen present there saved him.’
After the incident, the Police Commissionerate has ordered an investigation in view of the seriousness of the matter. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Bilhaur) Sumit Sudhakar Ramteke has been handed over the investigation of the case and has been asked to review the role of the Investigating Officer (IO) and Station House Officer (SHO).
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Western Zone, Vijendra Dwivedi said the couple’s suicide attempt was due to frustration over police inaction in the search for their daughter. After the incident, senior police officers have assured the couple that action will now be intensified in search of their daughter. The heads of three police stations and the investigating officer have been instructed to immediately take concrete steps in this matter.
