The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh has busted a big drug smuggling gang and arrested two people. This action was taken on Saturday from a private hospital near Saidhari village, where both the smugglers had gathered. During this, the team recovered one kilogram of drug ‘Mefa Drawn’ (MD) from them, whose estimated value in the international market is around Rs 10 crore.

According to Kheri Superintendent of Police (SP) Sankalp Sharma, the arrested accused have been identified as Rakesh Vishwakarma and Vikram Singh. Both of them are residents of Kheri district. At the same time, another person associated with this smuggling is said to be Doctor Khalid Khan associated with the hospital. At present he is absconding. Police is conducting raids in search of him.

During interrogation, both the accused confessed that they used to smuggle drug Mefa from Nepal and sell it at high prices in Uttar Pradesh and other states. These drugs were purchased from Nepal at very cheap rates, after which it was supplied to different parts of India. According to the police, this time the arrested accused had gathered at a private hospital to hand over the smuggled medicine to a party.

Kheri SP informed that a case has been registered against the accused at Kotwali police station under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act. A special team has been formed for a detailed investigation of the case. The investigation has also revealed that the hospital used in trafficking was not just being used as a meeting place, but possibly more people could be involved in this activity.

Attempt to spread drugs in the state by bringing drugs from border areas

The police have seized all the documents and records related to the hospital and are also interrogating the employees. UP ANTF officials said that this action is part of a broader operation to curb drug trafficking in the state. The team said that action is being intensified against such gangs, which are trying to bring drugs from border areas and spread them in the state.
