Iyer completed his half -century in the 19th over. He played the slow ball of Cummins for four runs above the wicketkeeper’s head. He then poured another slow ball for six runs easily. Cummins bowled the third ball yorker. Iyer hit him for four runs at the back. On the next ball, he hit a four on the short third. Then he completed his half -century with two runs. Rinku Singh escaped from being run out due to the mistake in fielding. A total of 21 runs were scored in this over, while Pat Cummins got 44 runs in 4 overs.
Iyer also started the last over in a brilliant way. He hit a six and four off Harshal Patel’s first two balls. But then luck did not support him. Harshal dismissed him on the third ball. Iyer scored 60 runs in 29 balls. He hit seven fours and three sixes. His strike rate was 206.89.
After the first innings, Iyer said- the ball was stopping a little. This is not an Eden Gardens pitch on which I am accustomed to playing. We think we have a good score, a very competitive score (on board). “This means the pitch was a bit slow and the ball was not coming properly on the bat. He also said that he feels that his team has scored a good score. He further said- I did not get much runs in the first two matches, so I just wanted to feel the wicket.
